James Read is an Associate Professor and Tutorial Fellow in Philosophy at Pembroke College, University of Oxford. His research focuses on the philosophy of physics, particularly spacetime theories, underdetermination in cosmology, and foundational questions in relativity and quantum mechanics. He holds a D.Phil. from Hertford College (2016), a B.Phil. from Merton College (2016), an M.A.St. in Mathematics from Trinity College, Cambridge (2014), and an M.Phys.Phil. in Physics and Philosophy from Oriel College, Oxford (2013). His research interests include spacetime functionalism, the dynamical/geometrical debate in relativity, and the interpretation of dualities in string theory. He has published extensively on topics such as the hole argument, teleparallel gravity, and the epistemology of spacetime. His work often bridges mathematical rigor and philosophical clarity, addressing conceptual challenges in modern physics. Teaching spans preliminary and final-year courses in logic, metaphysics, philosophy of physics, and Wittgenstein. He supervises graduate students in philosophy of physics and science. His recent articles emphasize underdetermination in cosmological theories and constructive axiomatic approaches to spacetime physics. His academic webpage (http://users.ox.ac.uk/~orie2304/) and Google Scholar profile (https://scholar.google.co.uk/citations?user=VaoBs1gAAAAJ&hl=en) provide comprehensive access to his publications and reviews of key texts in the philosophy of physics.
