Uwe Czaniera

Dr. Uwe Czaniera is a Lecturer at the University of Bayreuth's Department of Philosophy within the Faculty of Cultural Studies. Born in Bremen (1967), he studied philosophy there from 1988, initially focusing on bioethics before shifting to metaethics and philosophy of science. He contributed to the LOGO FILM project (1993–1995), creating a documentary series on analytic philosophy featuring interviews with prominent figures like Richard Hare and Willard Van Orman Quine. Completing his PhD in 2000 at Bayreuth, his seminal work Gibt es moralisches Wissen? addresses the cognitivism debate in metaethics. Since 2000, he has been deeply involved in the P&E program, advocating its academic and societal value. His research spans General Philosophy of Science (Verificationism, Critical Rationalism), Theories of Ethics (Consequentialism, Deontologism), and Metaethics (Cognitivism vs. Noncognitivism), with additional interests in Philosophy of Mind and Bioethics.
