Prof. Dr. Dieter Schramm is a Full Professor and Head of the Chair of Mechatronics at the University of Duisburg-Essen, part of the Faculty of Engineering. He leads the department focused on mechatronics applications in mobility and robotics, with research emphasizing vehicle technology (electro-mobility, driver assistance systems) and robotics (cable-driven systems). His academic career includes roles at Robert Bosch GmbH and Tyco Electronics before joining academia in 2004. He is also Director of the Center of Automotive Research (CAR) and holds leadership positions in industry and advisory boards. Education: Earned his PhD in Engineering from the University of Stuttgart (1986) after graduating in Mathematics (1981). His research spans over three decades, with contributions to mechatronics, including driver assistance systems, simulation, and automated transportation. He has been awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Miskolc (2015). Research interests include vehicle dynamics, electro-mobility, robotics, and traffic flow analysis. His team develops technologies for autonomous vehicles, energy-efficient systems, and simulation tools. Notable projects include the Center of Automotive Research (CAR), involvement in fleet projects (ColognEmobil), and collaborations on cable-driven robots for construction. Scientific awards include the honorary doctorate from the University of Miskolc, highlighting his contributions to engineering and mobility. His work integrates interdisciplinary approaches across mechanical, electronic, and IT domains, addressing challenges in automotive, robotics, and sustainable transportation.
