Georgine Yorgey serves as Director of the WSU Energy Program, Affiliate Faculty in the Department of Biological Systems Engineering, and Senior Research Fellow with the Center for Sustaining Agriculture and Natural Resources (CSANR) at Washington State University's College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences. With 15 years at CSANRS, she leads initiatives at the food-energy-water-climate nexus. Education: BA Biology, Swarthmore College (1999) with High Honors, minor in Sociology & Anthropology M.P.A., University of Washington (2008) Her research focuses on developing circular economies in agriculture through nutrient and energy recovery from organic wastes, climate change mitigation strategies, and assessing climate impacts on agricultural systems. She pioneers work in anaerobic digestion, biogas production, soil carbon sequestration, and water resource management in Pacific Northwest cropping systems. Her approach integrates stakeholder collaboration with technical innovation to address regional sustainability challenges. Analysis of her 15 most recent publications reveals dominant themes in Columbia River Basin water management, dairy manure valorization, climate-resilient cropping systems, and carbon farming methodologies. Key geographic focus centers on Pacific Northwest agricultural systems with strong emphasis on practical implementation through farmer partnerships. Scientific Awards: WSU CAHNRS Excellence in Extension Award (2024) WSU Provost’s Leadership Academy (2022-2023) Washington Organic Recycling Council Excellence in Education and Outreach Award (2015) WSU CAHNRS Interdisciplinary Team Award (2011) USDA NIFA Partnership Award for Innovative Program Models (2009) As Director of the WSU Energy Program and former Associate Director at CSANRS, Yorgey has secured significant USDA and state funding for collaborative projects addressing agricultural sustainability. Her extension work emphasizes farmer-to-farmer knowledge transfer through case studies and demonstration projects across Washington's diverse agricultural regions. She actively partners with dairy producers, crop growers, and policymakers to implement practical climate adaptation strategies. Yorgey leads the Energy Extension Program within CSANRS, directing a team focused on agricultural energy systems, waste-to-energy conversion, and climate-smart farming practices. Her work bridges academic research with industry implementation through the Northwest Advanced Renewables Alliance and Pacific Northwest Climate Hub partnerships.
