Elisabeth Priedl is a Senior Scientist at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, affiliated with the Institute for Art and Cultural Studies. She holds a Dr. phil. from the University of Vienna (2004), having studied art history, history, and philosophy at the Universities of Vienna, Graz, and Rome III. Her career includes roles as research associate at the Bibliotheca Hertziana (Max Planck Institute for Art History, 1996-2000), director of the Klaus Engelhorn Gallery (2001-2004), and lecturer at the University of Vienna and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Her research focuses on Italian art and theory of the Early Modern period, with emphases on post-Tridentine art, gender studies, and the history of art historiography. Current projects explore 'Women of Sorrows: About Female Martyrdom.' She actively contributes to academic discourse through lectures such as: "Dying to be men?" at Hamburg’s Warburg House (2014) "Couples and their (in)visibility" at Vienna’s Kunsthistorisches Museum (2013) Renaissance Society of America presentations (2009) Priedl’s publications analyze Counter-Reformation art, gender representation in Renaissance imagery, and methodological approaches to art history. She collaborates on editorial projects, including volumes on martyrdom and love imagery in Early Modern art. Her work bridges traditional art historical analysis with digital methodologies, as seen in her exploration of Aby Warburg’s archives.
