Julia Hinterberger is an Associate Professor of Historical Musicology at the Musicology Department of Mozarteum University Salzburg. She specializes in Salzburg and Austrian music history, music in dictatorships, institutional history, and intermediality. Her research bridges musicology with gender studies and literary connections. She holds a doctorate from the Mozarteum University and has authored monographs like Klänge haben mehr Gedächtnis and edited volumes such as Vom Konservatorium zur Akademie. She has organized numerous conferences and workshops, including events on Salzburg's music history, Holocaust memorialization, and interdisciplinary arts.
Education: Music Education (Mozarteum University, 2003), German Literature (University of Salzburg, 2003), Flute Pedagogy (2006), and a doctoral program (2008). She has held roles as lecturer, research assistant, and editor of the university's institutional history.
Research interests emphasize music's role in cultural identity, Nazi-era Salzburg, and biographical studies. She collaborates across disciplines, integrating music with literature and visual arts.
