Helen Crompton is a Professor of Instructional Technology and Executive Director of the Research Institute for Digital Innovation in Learning at Old Dominion University. She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Technology and Mathematics Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2013), an M.Ed. in Elementary Education (2009), and a B.A. in Elementary Education (2001). Director of the Virtual Reality Lab at ODU Ranked in Stanford's Top 2% Scientists Worldwide Recipient of Virginia's SCHEV Outstanding Professor Award Her research focuses on Mobile Learning (mLearning) , Technology Integration , and Context-Aware Ubiquitous Learning in STEM education. She explores Artificial Intelligence and Virtual/Augmented Reality applications for K-12 and higher education. Recent publications analyze AI in K-12 education, mobile learning frameworks (SAMR), and digital equity during the pandemic. She has secured significant grants for projects like Advanced Ship-Handling Simulators ($450k) and Coastal Virginia Maritime Advancement Programs ($1.5M). Scientific Awards include: 2020 Education Leaders Network Award 2019 Provost Award for International Leadership 2018 SCHEV Rising Star 2017 STEM Excellence Award (ISTE) She advises governments and organizations like the United Nations and World Bank, with expertise in TPACK framework and 21st Century Skills . Her lab develops tools like the Digital Intelligence Virtual Assistant (DIVA) to enhance teaching and learning.
