Dr. Behrang Keshavarz is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychology at Toronto Metropolitan University and a Senior Scientist at the KITE Research Institute, University Health Network (UHN). He leads the Neurorehabilitation and Neuroscience Team at KITE-UHN, focusing on human perception and performance in virtual environments. Dr. Keshavarz holds a PhD from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (2012) and joined TMU in 2016 after a postdoctoral fellowship at KITE-UHN. His research explores human factors in virtual reality (VR), emphasizing three core areas: (1) enhancing self-motion perception (vection) and presence in VR, (2) mitigating motion sickness, and (3) applying VR to driving simulation and rehabilitation. KITE-UHN’s Challenging Environment and Assessment Laboratories (CEAL) provide advanced VR systems for his applied research, which bridges cognitive neuroscience with real-world health and safety applications. Dr. Keshavarz’s work integrates psychophysiological methods, machine learning, and behavioral studies to understand VR-induced phenomena. His contributions address translational challenges in VR technology, including optimizing user experience and minimizing adverse effects. Recent projects focus on age-related perceptual changes and developing predictive models for motion sickness susceptibility.
