Dr. Josh Arnold is a Lecturer in Medical Education at Norwich Medical School, University of East Anglia. His academic roles include leading physiology themes in undergraduate medical education (MB BS program) and delivering seminars, lectures, and online workshops.
- PhD in Physiology (Mechanisms of thermoregulation in hypoxic-cold environments)
Arnold’s research focuses on human thermoregulation under complex stressors like hypoxia and cold exposure. He investigates how non-thermal factors (e.g., oxygen availability) interact with autonomic responses to maintain thermal homeostasis, with recent work examining nitrate supplementation and shivering suppression. His publications span Environmental Physiology, Cardiovascular Regulation, and Stressor Interactions.
His 15 most recent articles reveal a consistent focus on hypoxia-cold synergy, nitrate’s physiological effects, thermal stressor validation, and human performance under extreme conditions. Key collaborators include researchers from the UK, Japan, and the Netherlands.
Arnold actively supervises student research projects and accepts PhD students in Integrative Human Physiology. He contributes to Metabolic Health initiatives at UEA.
