Anne Mäkikangas is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Tampere’s Faculty of Social Sciences. She leads the Working Life Research Center , focusing on burnout, workplace well-being, and psychosocial safety climate. Her research integrates qualitative and quantitative methods to explore work-related stress, job crafting, and recovery strategies. She holds a Doctor of Psychology degree and has been a Docent of Occupational Psychology since 2012. Key roles include Editor of Work & Stress magazine, member of editorial boards for Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology , and chair of the Scientific Expert Council for the Occupational Safety and Health Fund (2025–2026). She has received the 2014 Andre Bussing Memorial Prize for occupational health psychology research. Her research projects include From Brainstorming to Productive Meetings , Safely Remotely - Workplace Wellbeing Management , and cross-national studies on burnout practices. She has secured Academy of Finland funding as an Academy Fellow (2012–2017). Recent publications analyze study well-being profiles among university students, remote work dynamics, and mindfulness’s role in workplace creativity. She has authored/co-authored over 80 peer-reviewed articles and edited books on pandemic impacts and sustainable work practices.
