Dr. Rasha Rezk is an Associate Lecturer in the Department of Biology at the University of York and a Royal Academy of Engineering Enterprise Fellow. Her research focuses on microfluidic technologies for biomedical applications, including mechanoporation systems for drug delivery and genome editing. She leads projects on blood stem cell biomechanics, cancer therapy innovations, and advanced therapeutics development. Rasha holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge and has been recognized as a 2024 graduate of the Creation Destruction Lab (Advanced Therapies). Her educational background includes a prestigious Independent Research Fellowship at Cambridge, complementing her academic career. Research interests emphasize leveraging mechanical forces to manipulate cellular behavior, with applications in leukemia treatment and non-viral genome editing. The ForCell platform, developed under her guidance, represents a breakthrough in mechanoporation for therapeutic delivery. Key projects include investigating biomechanical links to gene expression in blood cells and developing tuneable mechanical platforms for safe cargo delivery. Awards include the Royal Academy of Engineering Enterprise Fellowship and CDS Lab accreditation. Rasha actively supervises MSc projects in biomedical science and collaborates on grants for microfluidic technology advancements. Her work spans diverse fields from materials science to oncology, with a focus on translating lab innovations into clinical applications. Current efforts include refining the ForCell system for broader biomedical use and exploring plant synthetic biology applications of microfluidics.
