Hye Young Smith is an Instructor in the Department of East Asian Languages & Literatures at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. Her research focuses on Korean linguistics, interactional linguistics, conversation analysis, second language pedagogy, and pragmatics. She holds a PhD in East Asian Languages and Literatures (Korean) from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, an MA in Second Language Studies from the same institution, and a BEd in English Education and Korean Language Education from Korea National University of Education (KNUE).
