Dr Laura Arman is a Researcher in Linguistics focusing on syntax, typology, and Welsh language studies at Cardiff University’s School of Social Sciences. She holds a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Manchester (2015), specializing in Welsh syntax and semantics. Her current role involves researching the sociolinguistics of the Welsh language within secondary education as part of the WISERD Education Multi-Cohort Study. Previously, she contributed to the CorCenCC project, developing the National Corpus of Contemporary Welsh, and held teaching roles at Bangor University and the University of Huddersfield. Her work bridges theoretical linguistics with applied language preservation efforts, emphasizing computational methods and corpus-based research.
Education: PhD in Linguistics (University of Manchester, 2015). Key research interests include minority language dynamics, Welsh syntax/semantics interface, and corpus linguistics. She has authored/co-authored multiple publications on Welsh language technologies, pedagogical materials, and sociolinguistic studies. Active in interdisciplinary projects addressing Welsh language policy and education.
