Sofia Martinho is Associate Professor of Portuguese at the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies, University of Leeds, where she also serves as Director of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies and Director of the Camões Centre for Portuguese Language. Her academic leadership extends to national and international professional networks, including TROPO UK, where she is President. Her research focuses on language pedagogy, particularly digital literacies, speaking skills development, and the integration of technology in language teaching. She is a founding co-editor of The Language Scholar , an international open-access journal, and actively contributes to the Centre for Excellence in Language Teaching (CELT). Her work emphasizes innovation in assessment, curriculum design, and autonomous learning. The recent publications highlight a consistent focus on second language speaking skills, authenticity in materials, and digital tools for language learning.
