Dr. Jerome Beetz is a Senior Scientist and Principal Investigator at the University of Würzburg , leading the Beetz Lab within the Biocenter. His research focuses on the neural mechanisms underlying spatial memory in insects, particularly honeybees and monarch butterflies, through behavioral experiments and neurophysiological recordings in freely navigating individuals. His work explores how visual landmarks and spatial parameters are processed in the insect brain, with a specific interest in spatial working and reference memory , navigation systems , and polarized light sensitivity . His recent studies include decoding compass representations in monarch butterflies and analyzing temporal tuning in bat auditory cortex.
