Professor Catherine Driscoll is a faculty member in the Department of Gender and Cultural Studies at the University of Sydney, within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. She holds a BA from the University of New South Wales (UoN) and a PhD from the University of Melbourne. Her research explores intersections of gender, media, modernity, and cultural sustainability, with a focus on rural communities, youth culture, and the representation of gender in media and popular culture. Her work spans interdisciplinary projects such as the 'Cultural Sustainability in Rural Communities' initiative and the 'Gender and Modernity Research Group.' She is affiliated with the Sydney Environment Institute and The Vere Gordon Childe Centre. Key publications include The Hunger Games: Spectacle, Risk and the Girl Action Hero (2018) and Cultural Sustainability in Rural Communities (2017). Professor Driscoll has secured grants including the Australian Research Council's 'Australian Boys: Beyond the Boy Problem' (2021) and has contributed to special journal issues on feminist boys studies. Her research emphasizes critical approaches to media classification, youth governance, and the socio-cultural dynamics of modernity in the Asia-Pacific region. Current projects include investigations into boyhood studies through a feminist lens, as well as cultural pedagogies and human conduct.
