Daniel Movilla Vega is an Associate Professor in Architecture at Umeå School of Architecture, Umeå University, Sweden (since 2018). He leads the research group for Swedish Housing Studies and oversees the Radical Domesticities design studio at the master's level. His work bridges architectural design, history, and critical studies, focusing on housing standards, domestic space configurations, and sustainability in Sweden. Education: PhD in Architecture from Technical University of Madrid (dissertation on constructivist experimental housing), with postdoctoral research at LTU (2017-2018) and visiting positions at TU Delft, Columbia University, and ArkDes. Awards include the 2015-2016 Award for Outstanding Doctorate. Research explores housing policy evolution, spatial configurations, and material culture. Key projects include analyses of Swedish residential architecture under municipal programs, historical housing research labs (1937-1957), and the interplay between domestic space and societal structures. Recent initiatives include the 'Strangers at Home' project on asylum seeker housing and the 'God Bostad i Dag' urban residential improvement project. Teaching responsibilities include master's design studios and thesis supervision. He has published extensively on housing history, co-authored the 2017 book 99 Years of the Housing Question in Sweden , and edited thematic journal issues like The Housing Question of Tomorrow (2021). Grants include leadership of the Infrastructures of Care research project (2022-2023) and participation in international collaborations. His work addresses aging populations' living arrangements and housing's role in social transformation.
