Emil Gryesten is an assistant professor of piano and chamber music at the Royal Danish Academy of Music since 2017, and a PhD student at the Orpheus Institute in Ghent, Belgium (docARTES program) since September 2024. A renowned pianist, he has performed as a soloist and chamber musician across Europe, Asia, and the USA, including a Carnegie Hall debut. Education: Royal Danish Academy of Music, Sibelius Academy (Helsinki), Como International Piano Academy (Italy) His research focuses on classical piano performance aesthetics, romantic music interpretation, and artistic development projects like Beethoven Rekonstrueret (2020-2023) and Analogi og fortryllelse (2023-2024). His 2024 Chopin solo album features historically informed performances on a restored 1837 Érard piano. Scientific awards include: "Unge Elite" grant from the Danish Arts Foundation (2016) Harby Foundation's major grant (2014) Multiple first prizes at Nordic Piano Competition (2006), Steinway Klavierspielwettbewerb (2000), and others Consistent accolades since teenage years across Europe Active in educational outreach, he teaches at Chamber Music Camp, Askov College's Chamber Music Course, and coordinates music programs. Current projects involve a PhD dissertation at the Orpheus Institute, focusing on artistic research methodologies.
