Maureen Yuen is an Assistant Professor of Violin and String Area Coordinator at the University of Nevada, Reno's School of Music, effective January 2025. Previously, she held tenured positions at Drake University and taught at Columbia University, Mercyhurst University, and SUNY Fredonia. She specializes in music pedagogy, equity in education, and performance of underrepresented composers. Her research challenges traditional studio models and advocates for diversity in classical music.
Dr. Yuen holds a D.Ed. and M.Ed. from Columbia University and dual M.Mus. and B.Mus. degrees from the University of British Columbia. Her global performances include solo and chamber music engagements in Hong Kong, Kenya, and Japan. She is a senior adjudicator for the Royal Conservatory's Music Development Program and serves on the editorial board of the American String Teacher Journal.
Her scholarly work, including a 2024 Routledge book chapter and peer-reviewed articles, focuses on access, equity, and innovation in music education. Her 2023 album Violin Music by Women highlights overlooked composers. She also contributes to grants panels for the National Endowment for the Arts and supports emerging composers through Rising Tide Music Press.
