Nilgün AYDIN is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Preclinical Sciences at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Kafkas University, Turkey. She has been serving in this position since 2020, following her role as a Research Assistant at the same institution from 2014 to 2020. Her academic career is firmly rooted in veterinary parasitology, with a specific focus on molecular epidemiology of parasites affecting both domestic and wild animals in Northeast Anatolia. Dr. AYDIN earned her Doctorate in Veterinary Parasitology from Kafkas University's Institute of Health Sciences in 2019, with her dissertation focusing on the molecular epidemiology of Babesia and Theileria species in sheep in the Kars region. She completed her Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Medicine from Kafkas University's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine between 2008 and 2013. Her research interests span veterinary parasitology with particular emphasis on molecular epidemiology of tick-borne pathogens, zoonotic parasites, and vector-borne diseases affecting domestic animals. Dr. AYDIN has conducted extensive research on canine vector-borne diseases including Babesiosis, Hepatozoonosis, and Dirofilariosis, as well as parasitic infections in sheep, cattle, and waterfowl. Her work often combines molecular characterization techniques with epidemiological surveys to understand parasite distribution and impact. Analysis of her recent publications reveals a strong focus on molecular characterization of vector-borne pathogens, particularly in dogs and sheep. She has been investigating the prevalence and molecular epidemiology of tick-borne pathogens in Northeast Anatolia, with special attention to Babesia, Theileria, Anaplasma, and Ehrlichia species. Her research also extends to public health aspects of parasitic diseases, including cystic echinococcosis knowledge among animal breeders and butchers, and environmental contamination with parasitic eggs. She serves on the Faculty Management Board at Kafkas University since 2022 She holds a Commission Membership at Kafkas University since 2025 She has been teaching various parasitology courses including Parasitology, Clinical Parasitology, Protozoology, and Vector Biology Dr. AYDIN has successfully advised multiple graduate students, including Nesimi İlik (PhD, 2025), Edanur Gündüz Alan (MSc, 2023), and Muhammed Cihad Ergüney (MSc, 2023). Her research has been supported by numerous projects from higher education institutions, with her serving as principal investigator on several studies investigating parasitic diseases in dogs, sheep, and cattle across Northeast Anatolia.
