Mia Barimani is a Professor in Reproductive, Perinatal and Sexual Health at Linköping University, Department of Health, Medicine and Care (HMV) and Department of Nursing and Reproductive Health (ORH). She serves as the subject representative in reproductive, perinatal and sexual health at the university. Her educational background includes: Nursing degree from Lund University (1988) Midwifery degree from Lund University (1993) Specialist nurse in children and adolescents from Malmö School of Nursing (1997) Master's degree in reproductive and perinatal nursing from Lund University (2005) Pedagogy and Didactics from Stockholm University (2005) Doctor of Medicine from Karolinska Institutet (2012) Associate Professor in Reproductive Health from Karolinska Institutet (2019) Professor Barimani's research focuses on two main areas: violence in intimate relationships and pedagogical supervisor models in obstetric care. Her work on intimate partner violence addresses a significant public health problem affecting approximately 7-8% of women, with 2.1% of pregnant women experiencing ongoing violence. She leads a FORTE and Kamprad funded project conducting an intervention study within healthcare to increase identification of people exposed to intimate partner violence. Regarding pedagogical supervisor models, she addresses the challenges of maternity wards being under heavy strain with insufficient training places for students. In an ALF-funded project, she studies approaches to stimulate student-centered learning, including peer learning and interprofessional learning in obstetric care settings. Her recent publications (2022-2025) demonstrate a consistent focus on intimate partner violence screening in healthcare settings, midwifery education models, and postnatal care improvements. These works span multiple disciplines including public health, nursing, obstetrics, and medical education, with specific emphasis on violence identification, preceptorship models, and coordinated care approaches. Professor Barimani also serves as an expert for the National Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen) and is a member of the Swedish Midwives Association's Scientific Council (Svenska barnmorskeförbundets vetenskapliga råd).
