Lynne Honey is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at MacEwan University's Faculty of Arts and Science. Her research focuses on evolutionary psychology, social learning, and behavioral neuroscience, with particular emphasis on social dominance dynamics and their relationship to personality traits like the Dark Triad in human behavior. She also actively contributes to pedagogical innovation through evidence-based teaching methods.
- PhD in Psychology (Learning and Behavior), McMaster University
- BA in Psychology, Algoma University
Dr. Honey's research spans two primary domains: (1) social dominance and personality traits, examining sex differences in dominance attainment and perception, and (2) behavioral pedagogy, developing novel teaching approaches including flipped classrooms and blended learning. Recent publications analyze evolutionary perspectives on human sexuality, dominance strategies, and educational methodologies.
Her work appears in journals like Evolutionary Psychological Science and Frontiers in Psychology, with a 2025 focus on authentic assessment techniques and a 2024 study on sexual orientation differences in Dark Triad traits. Earlier research explored animal models of ethanol consumption inheritance, demonstrating her interdisciplinary approach across behavioral neuroscience and evolutionary theory.
- ACIFA Award for Innovation in Teaching (2013)
- Member: Human Behavior and Evolution Society, Canadian Society for Brain/Behavior/Cognitive Science, Society for Personality and Social Psychology, Society for the Teaching of Psychology
Dr. Honey supervises senior student research projects on social dominance while teaching courses ranging from Principles of Learning and Behavior to Advanced Evolutionary Psychology. She co-authored the textbook Introduction to Learning and Behavior (5th Edition) and develops educational resources including test banks and study guides.
