Joe Brown is an Adjunct Professor in Environmental Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, affiliated with the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. He holds Professional Engineer licensure in North Carolina and Alabama. His research bridges environmental engineering and public health, focusing on water infrastructure sustainability, pathogen detection methods, water treatment innovation, and health impacts of waterborne pathogens. He has held faculty positions at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and has consulted for UNICEF, WHO, and the World Bank. He supervises a diverse team of graduate and undergraduate researchers.
