معرفی
Dr. Tom Masselter is a Lecturer and Academic Councillor at the University of Freiburg's Plant Biomechanics Group. His research focuses on plant biomechanics, biomimetics, and functional morphology, applying insights from biological systems to engineering challenges. He investigates plant structures like branch junctions, leaf unfolding mechanics, and adaptive motions to develop biomimetic solutions for robotics, materials science, and environmental technology.
Key projects include creating self-actuated paper/wood models for education, developing microfiber filters for washing machines, and designing soft robotic actuators inspired by plant movements. His work bridges botany, engineering, and architecture, emphasizing sustainable and adaptive systems.
Recent publications explore topics such as hygroscopic movements in pine cones, peristaltic pumping systems, and MRI-based plant anatomy analysis. He collaborates on biomimetic products like Flectofin flapping mechanisms and self-repairing membranes. Contact: tom.masselter@biologie.uni-freiburg.de.
