Dr. Alexis K. Ault is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geosciences at Utah State University's College of Science. Her research integrates earthquake geology, fault rock thermochronometry, and multiscale textural analysis to investigate fault slip behavior during the earthquake cycle. She has received prestigious awards including the National Science Foundation CAREER Award, Kavli Fellowship, and College of Science Researcher of the Year. PhD , Geosciences, University of Colorado at Boulder (2012) MS , Earth and Planetary Sciences, University of New Mexico (2007) BA , Geology and Political Science, Wellesley College (2003) Dr. Ault's work combines thermochronometry with deformation experiments to study earthquake energy dissipation in shallow fault rocks. Her research bridges geophysical observations with societal implications for seismic hazard assessment, focusing on fault slip paleothermometry and nanoscale textural analysis. Recent publications highlight fault mirror thermochronometry (2023-2024), deformation experiments (2022-2023), and tectonic applications (2021-2022). She actively mentors graduate students in geochronology and structural geology. Kavli Fellow (2023) NSF CAREER Award (2017) College of Science Researcher of the Year (2018) NSF Postdoctoral Fellowship (2011) Dr. Ault teaches advanced geology courses including Low-Temperature Thermochronology (GEO 6580/7580) and field methods (GEO 4700). She leads the M2SLab, integrating geologic, geochemical, and mechanical data to study fault systems like the San Andreas and Wasatch faults.
