Associate Professor Tomer Ventura leads research in crustacean biotechnology at the University of the Sunshine Coast's School of Science, Technology and Engineering. His pioneering work on gene silencing for sex change in crustaceans has significant applications in sustainable aquaculture. As Theme Leader for Conservation and Biodiversity at the Centre for Bioinnovation, he translates molecular research into biotechnologies addressing industry challenges like vertebrae deformities in salmon. His research interests span molecular mechanisms of crustacean development, monosex population culture, and cellular agriculture for aquatic species. Ventura's work integrates transcriptomics, RNAi technology, and bioinformatics to advance aquaculture sustainability. Recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on crustacean endocrinology and sexual differentiation, with emerging work on cell-based meat production and conservation genetics. His articles frequently explore hormonal regulation, gene expression, and biotechnology applications.
