Aaron Cavosie is a Senior Lecturer in the Space Science and Technology Centre at Curtin University's School of Earth and Planetary Sciences, Faculty of Science and Engineering. With over 80 peer-reviewed publications, he is a leading expert in planetary science, specializing in the geochemistry and microstructure of minerals formed during meteorite impacts. His research spans terrestrial and extraterrestrial impact structures, early Earth processes, and planetary evolution. He has pioneered techniques for analyzing shocked minerals, particularly zircon, to understand impact events throughout Earth's history and on other planetary bodies. His recent publications reveal a strong emphasis on Mars-related research, early Earth processes, and advanced analytical techniques for studying impact structures. The research spans multiple continents, with studies on Australian impact structures (Yarrabubba, Woodleigh, Ilkurlka), Chicxulub crater in Mexico, and Martian meteorites. His work combines field studies, microanalytical techniques, and isotopic studies to unravel the history of planetary surfaces. Dr. Cavosie serves as principal advisor for PhD, MS, and BS (Honours) students, with a particular focus on microanalysis of rocks and minerals. His research has been supported by major funding agencies including the Australian Research Council, U.S. National Science Foundation, and NASA. His work generates significant media interest, with coverage in major outlets including CNN, New York Times, and Science Advances. The Space Science and Technology Centre (SSTC) at Curtin University serves as the umbrella for all planetary science research at the institution. Dr. Cavosie is deeply involved in this center, which coordinates research on impact cratering, planetary geology, and early solar system evolution. The center maintains strong international collaborations and utilizes cutting-edge analytical facilities for mineral and geochemical analysis.
