Nadine Bade is a Senior Lecturer and researcher in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Konstanz, affiliated with the AG Walkden group. Since April 2025, she has led the project 'Pragmatic reasoning with (non-)visual alternatives,' part of the Priority Programme ViCom. Previously, she held positions at the University of Potsdam (replacing Prof. Zimmermann), Institut Jean Nicod (Paris), and the University of Tübingen, focusing on projects like 'Between Language and Reasoning' and 'ObTrEx.' Her research spans syntax, semantics, pragmatics, psycholinguistics, and the language of fiction. Her work emphasizes experimental methods, including studies on implicatures, presuppositions, and cross-linguistic pragmatics. Notable collaborations include projects with Salvador Mascarenhas, Malte Zimmermann, and others. She has presented at major conferences such as SALT, CogSci, and WAFL, addressing topics like pragmatic reasoning, word learning, and modal operators. Bade's contributions bridge theoretical and experimental approaches, with publications in journals like Semantics and Pragmatics , Glossa , and Psychological Research . Her current research explores pragmatic strengthening mechanisms and the interplay between language and reasoning. She has secured grants for projects investigating alternatives, attention, and deductive fallacies. Bade’s work often involves experimental paradigms, such as priming studies and mouse-tracking, to probe real-time language processing.
