Dr. Hedy Greijdanus is an Assistant Professor in Social Psychology at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences. She specializes in understanding how online behaviors, humor, and social norms influence collective action and conflict dynamics. Currently serving as Coordinator for master internships in Applied Social Psychology and Treasurer of the ASPO (Dutch Social Psychology Association), her work bridges academic research with practical policy applications. Her research focuses on digital activism, conflict escalation/de-escalation, and the role of humor in public health campaigns. Notable projects include analyzing how memes and biblical references mobilize humanitarian efforts, measuring global gender equality intentions, and developing intervention strategies for online violence prevention. She has collaborated on over 30 peer-reviewed publications and contributed to media discussions on slacktivism, meta's content moderation, and pandemic-era social behaviors. Greijdanus holds a unique position in linking social psychology to real-world issues, with recent activities including organizing the 2024 ASPO conference and advising the Dutch Ministry of Justice on online violence prevention strategies. Her interdisciplinary approach combines quantitative and qualitative methods to address complex societal challenges.
