Prof. Dr. Andreas Thor has been Professor of Data Analysis, Databases and E-Learning at the Faculty of Digital Transformation , HTWK Leipzig, since October 2019. He concurrently serves as Dean of Studies TIB/IKB , member of the Faculty Council since April 2020, Evaluation Officer, and since 2023 chair of the annual Workshop on e-Learning at HTWK Leipzig. Education & career milestones: PhD (Dr. rer. nat.) in Computer Science, Leipzig University (2008) Diplom-Informatiker, Leipzig University (2002) 2013–2019: Professor for Database Management Systems, Hochschule für Telekommunikation Leipzig 2012–2013: Acting Professor, Chair of Information Management, Universität Passau 2010–2011: Visiting Researcher, University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies 2006–2012: Research Associate, Database Group, Leipzig University Research interests revolve around scalable data management, data analytics, e-learning technologies, and digital assessment. He leads or co-leads several funded projects: FAssMII – Feedback-based E-Assessment in STEM subjects tech4comp – Personalised competency development through scalable mentoring processes EAs.LiT – E-Assessment Literacy Tool for quality-assured digital exams CRExplorer – Citation analysis and research-priority detection AutoShard – Handling hot-spot data objects in NoSQL stores He is an active contributor to the academic community: member of the executive committee of the GI department “Databases and Information Systems”, spokesperson of the GI working group “Data Management in the Cloud” (2012-2018), member of the E-Learning working group of the LRK Saxony, and editorial board member of Lecture Notes in Informatics (LNI) since 2017. He has served as chair or co-chair for conferences such as GvDB 2021, BTW student programmes 2015/17/19, and the DMC workshops 2013/14, and as PC member for EDBT, VLDB, SIGMOD, BTW and many others. Teaching portfolio includes courses on Big Data Management, Cloud Data Management, Data Engineering, Database Systems, Data Analytics & Machine Learning, and Practical Data Science. He has been leading the annual “Workshop on e-Learning” at HTWK Leipzig since 2023, fostering exchange on AI-supported teaching and digital assessment among German universities.
