Ana Isabel Henriques Dias Fernandes is an Associate Professor and Head of the PharmSci Lab at Instituto Universitário Egas Moniz in Portugal. She holds a Pharmacy degree from the University of Lisbon and a PhD in Drug Delivery from the University of London. Her research focuses on pharmaceutical polymers, 3D-printed medicines, pediatric formulations, and drug solubility enhancement. She has led or collaborated on numerous projects funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), including initiatives on drug delivery systems, nutraceuticals, and elderly medication practices. Educational background includes a Licenciatura in Pharmaceutical Sciences (1992, University of Lisbon), a Specialization in Pharmaceutical Technology (1997, University of Lisbon), and a PhD in Drug Delivery (1996, University of London). Her professional roles include Vice-Director of ISCSEM (2000–2018) and leadership in academic committees such as the Scientific Board of the Pharmaceutical Sciences Course. Her research interests span biomedical polymers, drug delivery technologies, and personalized medicine via 3D printing. Key projects include developing co-amorphous drug systems for solubility enhancement and creating powdered milk formulations for pediatric use. She has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and regularly presents at international conferences like the PBP World Meeting and FIP Congress. Her work bridges pharmacy and interdisciplinary research, with contributions to medication safety (e.g., elderly medication reviews) and societal aspects of drug use. She coordinates the PharmSci Lab and collaborates with institutions like the Egas Moniz Interdisciplinary Research Centre, focusing on innovations in pharmaceutical sciences and healthcare solutions.
