Conrad Hessels is an Assistant Professor at the Mechanical Engineering Department of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), specializing in optical/laser diagnostics for multiphase reactive flows. He leads research on metal energy carriers, focusing on iron powder-based energy storage systems. His work spans experimental techniques like Raman spectroscopy, SEM, and µCT, addressing reactor design, powder safety, and sustainable energy cycles. Education: Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering, TU/e (2015) Master's in Mechanical Engineering, TU/e (2017), awarded TU/e MSc Thesis Award 2018 and 2nd KHMW Nederlandse Gasindustrie Prijzen PhD in Mechanical Engineering, TU/e (2023), supervised by Prof. Niels Deen Research Interests: Development of in-situ/ex-situ diagnostics for metal energy carriers, iron powder reduction using green hydrogen, fluidized bed reactor optimization, and multiphase flow analysis. His work aligns with UN SDG 7 (Affordable Clean Energy) and SDG 13 (Climate Action). Notable Achievements: Winner of 1st poster prize (2023) and 2nd 'Science as Art' prize (2023) Recipient of grants for projects like 'Iron Fuel: a clean and circular energy carrier' (2022–2026) Advising & Labs: Active in supervising graduate research and leading the Power & Flow Group. Collaborates on EU-funded initiatives like Lighthouse - Metal Energy Carrier (2020–2022) and contributes to the TU/e Energy Systems group.
