Dr. Victor Francia is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Mechanical, Process & Energy Engineering within the School of Engineering & Physical Sciences at Heriot-Watt University. His research focuses on multiphase flow systems and decarbonization strategies, leading the xFlow group to develop advanced process technologies for carbon-neutral manufacturing and energy sectors. He holds a Chemical Engineering degree from Universidad de Salamanca (2006) and postgraduate qualifications in environmental engineering and international cooperation.
Research Interests: His work spans transport phenomena (rheology of cohesive powders, agglomeration), device design (oscillatory fluidized beds, vortex chambers), and systems integration (dynamic fouling mitigation, AI-driven monitoring). xFlow’s mission involves integrating clean energy solutions and responsive technologies into traditional processes through multiscale modeling and hybrid digital twins.
Article Trends: Recent publications emphasize gas-solid fluidized beds, pulsed flow dynamics, and machine learning applications in multiphase systems. Key topics include bubble self-organization, heat transfer optimization, and scalable reactor design for decarbonization.
Professional Background: Prior to academia, Francia worked at Procter & Gamble (R&D Manager), Acciona (desalination), and ExxonMobil (heat exchanger optimization consultant). He contributed to Imperial College London’s Thermofluids division and co-founded Hexxcell Ltd before joining UCL for process intensification research.
Lab & Activities: Leads the xFlow group, actively participates in conferences (e.g., Fluidization XVII), and serves as a guest editor for Powder Technology. His work aligns with UN SDGs related to sustainable energy and industrial innovation.
