Manuel Quevedo holds the rank of Professor in the Department of Materials Science & Engineering at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), affiliated with the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science. He also serves as a Research Professor at UTD and holds adjunct roles at the University of Sonora (Mexico) and University of North Texas. His primary research focuses on advanced materials for flexible electronics, semiconductor devices, and thin film technologies, emphasizing applications in radiation detection, energy storage, and optoelectronics. Quevedo’s academic qualifications include a Ph.D. in Materials Science & Engineering (University of North Texas, 2002), M.S. in Materials Science (Saltillo Institute of Technology, 1998), and B.Sc. in Chemistry/Biology (University of Sonora, 1996). He has advised 7 PhD and 4 M.S. students, supervised 3 post-docs, and mentored visiting scholars and faculty. His research spans flexible electronics, silicon-based devices (e.g., high-k gate dielectrics), and thin film semiconductors. Key projects include low-temperature integration of hybrid CMOS devices on plastic substrates and development of neutron detectors using perovskite materials. He has attracted over $1.3M in funding as co-PI and $700K as PI, and holds 5 issued patents and 4 pending patents related to semiconductor materials and device fabrication. Quevedo has received notable awards, including the SEMATECH Corporate Excellence Award (2005) and Inventor Recognition Award (SRC, 2003). He is active in professional organizations (MRS, AVS) and has organized international conferences, including the 2010 MRS Flexible Electronics conference. His work emphasizes cross-border academic collaboration, particularly between the U.S. and Mexico, through exchange programs funded by CONACYT. His lab specializes in device fabrication, material characterization, and thin film deposition techniques (e.g., pulsed laser deposition, chemical bath deposition). Current focus areas include perovskite-based detectors, gallium oxide UV sensors, and sustainable energy materials. He contributes to the field through invited reviews, editorships (MRS Bulletin), and over 30 international conference presentations.
