Professor Richard J M Coward is the Professor of Renal Medicine at the University of Bristol and a Consultant Paediatric Nephrologist at Bristol Royal Hospital for Sick Children. His work bridges clinical practice and research, focusing on kidney cell signaling pathways in disease. Research interests include: Understanding podocyte biology and proteinuria in kidney failure Diabetic nephropathy mechanisms and therapies Haemolytic Uraemic Syndrome (HUS) in children Inherited kidney stone disease (cystinuria) Scientific awards : MRC Clinician Scientist Fellowship (2006-2013) MRC Senior Clinical Fellowship (2013-2018) Senior Clinical Scientist Fellow (MRC) Training Initiatives : Co-director of the Wellcome Trust-funded GW4 Clinical Academic Training scheme, mentoring over 35 Fellows. Leadership roles in REF submissions and national pediatric nephrology research. International teaching collaborations in East Africa and DRC.
