Axel Buchner is a full Professor of Finance at ESCP Business School in Berlin, holding the Chair in Entrepreneurial Finance and Corporate Finance. He actively teaches Financial Management, Corporate Finance, and Entrepreneurial Finance courses while leading research on venture capital, private equity, and alternative investments' risk, return, and illiquidity characteristics. Education: PhD in Finance from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) Master’s in Business Administration from Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU) Research Interests focus on entrepreneurial finance, venture capital syndication, private equity performance evaluation, and risk modeling in illiquid investments. His work explores how military conflict impacts cross-border VC, the role of repeated syndication players, and the diversification benefits of private equity funds-of-funds. Publication Trends show a consistent focus on alternative asset classes, particularly venture capital and private equity, spanning risk-adjusted returns, illiquidity premiums, portfolio optimization under non-normal market conditions, and behavioral finance aspects like herd behavior in buyout markets. Recent work addresses private debt structures and team dynamics in VC syndication.
