Gabriel M. Peña is an Assistant Professor of Theatre at Southwestern University, specializing in performance and acting. He holds a B.A. in Theatre from Pomona College and an M.F.A. in Acting from Pennsylvania State University. His professional performance experience spans contemporary plays, Shakespeare, musicals, devised works, film, and voice acting, with international engagements including performances at ACT San Francisco, Ireland's Gaiety Theatre, and South Africa's National Arts Festival. Peña's research focuses on integrating somatic practices—particularly Moshe Feldenkrais' Awareness Through Movement—into actor training methodologies. He explores interdisciplinary approaches for 21st-century performers, examining intersections between performance and fields like philosophy, border studies, and character development. His innovative work examines how physical therapy techniques can enhance artistic expression. Professor Peña maintains active professional collaborations, most recently directing Adam Gwon's chamber musical Ordinary Days for Penfold Theatre. He mentors students through production opportunities, including technical roles for theatre majors and minors.
