Kim Christian Schrøder is a Professor in the Department of Communication and Humanities at Roskilde University, Denmark. He maintains active affiliations with multiple research centers including Audiences & Mediated Life, Journalism and Democracy, Center for News Research, and Center for Digital Citizenship. His ORCID ID is 0000-0002-5437-4249, and he can be contacted at kimsc@ruc.dk. Professor Schrøder's research examines citizens' use and experience of news media as democratic resources through two complementary approaches: large-scale annual surveys tracking population-level news preferences and trust (as part of the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at Oxford since 2013), and qualitative analysis of young people's news consumption through the "Beyond the Here and Now of News" project. His methodological expertise spans reception research, media ethnography, discourse analysis, and media history across historical and contemporary contexts. Analysis of his recent publications (2024-2025) reveals a strong focus on evolving news consumption challenges including willingness to pay for news, news fatigue phenomena, Nordic media system comparisons, and the psychological impacts of political coverage. His work consistently addresses the tension between public service and private news media in the Danish context while examining how digital platforms reshape information repertoires. His scientific contributions have been recognized with significant honors: Fellow of The International Communication Association (2018) Top extended abstract award from the ICA journalism studies division (2020) Professor Schrøder leads the ongoing "Danskernes brug af nyhedsmedier" project (since 2015) and previously co-led the Danmarks Frie Forskningsfond-funded "Beyond the Here and Now of News" project (2018-2023). He serves as editor for the International Journal of Cultural Studies and contributes to the Media and Communication Encyclopedia, the only comprehensive reference work of its kind in the Nordic region with over 600 entries. He directs the Center for News Research at Roskilde University, which produces annual reports on Danish news media usage. His collaborative network extends across Nordic countries and internationally through the Reuters Institute, demonstrating significant influence on media research methodology and policy discussions regarding news media sustainability.
