Mogens Pelt is an Associate Professor at the SAXO Institute (Department of Archaeology, Ethnology, Greek & Latin, History) within the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Copenhagen. Since 2012, he has co-directed the research centre 'Many Roads in Modernity'. He holds a dr.phil. (2003), ph.d. (1993), and cand.mag. et art. (1988) in History, Modern Greek, and Latin.
His research explores the political and economic transformations of Southeast Europe and the Mediterranean, with emphasis on:
- Ottoman Empire disintegration and nation-state formation
- Greek-Turkish state development and bilateral relations
- Historical globalization patterns since 1850
- Interplay between trade networks and political power
Recent publications focus on 19th-21st century diplomatic history, monarchy studies, and regional geopolitics, particularly analyzing Greek/Turkish-German relations and security policy evolution.
Awards & Fellowships:
- Stanley J. Seeger Fellowship at Princeton University (2008-9)
He contributes to international research networks including the Volkswagen Foundation's 'Captive States, Divided Societies' project and has held visiting positions at Princeton University (1999, 2008-9).
