Tim Boaz Bruun Skuldbøl serves as an Affiliated Associate Professor in the Department of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen. He directs the Danish Archaeological Expedition to Iraq (DAEI) and acts as a research consultant for Sudanese projects including the International Kuraymat Archaeological Project (IKAP), focusing on early urban societies and archaeological heritage protection.
His research centers on ancient urban development across the Near East and Africa, with emphasis on cultural encounters and heritage management. Fieldwork in Iraq and western Iran investigates Late Chalcolithic societies and Uruk expansion dynamics, while Sudanese projects examine early Medieval Christian and Napatan state formation during the Iron Age.
Recent publications (2018-2020) reveal consistent focus on Mesopotamian and Zagros region archaeology, particularly material culture analysis and settlement patterns from the Late Chalcolithic period. Key themes include cultural interaction mechanisms, urbanization processes, and innovative approaches like garbage archaeology for understanding ancient societal transitions.
Skuldbøl actively contributes to academic governance through committee service including PhD Assessment Committees (2007-2008) and Forskningsudvalg (2006-2008). His public engagement includes media commentary on Syrian heritage threats during civil conflict and archaeological significance of waste practices.
