Sadie Whittam is a Senior Lecturer (Teaching and Engagement) and Director of Clinical Legal Education at Lancaster University's School of Law. As a practising Solicitor with Higher Rights of Audience, she functions as a Solicitor Advocate and CEDR-accredited mediator. Her professional background includes working at Magic Circle law firms in London, with experience including secondments to Amsterdam and a Premier League football club's legal team, as well as practice at a global law firm in Manchester. Sadie specializes in Civil Litigation, Dispute Resolution and Clinical Legal Education, with current research focusing on artificial intelligence and civil liability. She has designed and implemented innovative modules including Civil Litigation and Dispute Resolution, Mediation and Legal Tech and Innovation. Her scholarly work appears in leading journals such as The Company Lawyer, the International Journal of Law and Information Technology, and the International Journal of Clinical Legal Education. Her publication record reveals a strong emphasis on clinical legal education pedagogy, authentic learning experiences, and emerging legal challenges in the digital age. Her recent work addresses strategic litigation abuses, law clinic assessment methods, community-based research for social justice, and developing appropriate liability frameworks for artificial intelligence systems. She founded the Policy Law Clinic in 2021. She convenes multiple courses including Legal Tech and Innovation, Civil Litigation and Dispute Resolution, and various Law Clinic offerings. Externally, she serves as Chief Examiner for CILEX's Advanced Dispute Resolution module and as Assessment Representative on The Law Society of England and Wales' Learning and Development Steering Group.
