Prof. Dr. Jocelien Olivier is an Associate Professor at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Science and Engineering, specifically within the Groningen Institute for Evolutionary Life Sciences. His research focuses on neurodevelopmental outcomes of early life events, particularly the role of serotonin in psychopathology, using serotonin transporter knockout rats as a model. He holds additional roles, including Chair of the GELIFES board, Executive Board member of the Young Academy Groningen, and Treasurer of the Dutch Neurofederation. Education: PhD in Psychoneuropharmacology (Radboud University Medical Centre), MSc in Medical Biology (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam), and BSc in Zoology (Utrecht University of Applied Sciences). His research integrates behavioral pharmacology, physiology, and molecular analysis to understand developmental impacts. Research interests include antidepressant effects during pregnancy, placental transmission of serotonin, and the interplay between genes and environment in mental health. His work has been recognized with awards like the NARSAD Young Investigator Award and the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship. He has supervised numerous PhD students, contributing to studies on topics like placental gene expression and behavioral outcomes in offspring. Publications highlight studies on maternal sleep's effects on pregnancy outcomes, hearing loss impacts on memory, and social behavior in rodents. He is actively involved in teaching, including courses on behavioral pharmacology and neuroendocrine systems. His lab emphasizes translational research, bridging animal models to human health challenges.
