Dr. Kathy Hoke serves as Professor of Mathematics and Mathematical Economics Program Coordinator at the University of Richmond's School of Arts and Sciences, with her office located in Jepson Hall (212A). She can be contacted via email at khoke@richmond.edu or by phone at (804) 289-8089. Her educational credentials include: Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Dr. Hoke's research integrates discrete mathematics with biological and neurological applications. She develops mathematical models for games, voting systems, and communication graphs, with current emphasis on DNA analysis using Markov chains and Hidden Markov Models. Her collaborative work with VCU-CERSE and the McGuire Veterans Administration Medical Center focuses on quantitative detection methods for chronic mild traumatic brain injury in combat veterans. She has secured substantial research funding as co-PI and administrator for Howard Hughes Medical Institute Science Education grants, NSF-funded Mathematics LURE programs, and Clare Boothe Luce Foundation scholarships for women in STEM fields. Dr. Hoke pioneered curriculum integration through a five-discipline 'supercourse' and the SMART program, which combines first-year chemistry, biology, and calculus instruction to demonstrate interdisciplinary connections. Her active research team includes collaborators from the University of Richmond, VCU Center for Rehabilitation Sciences and Engineering, and the McGuire Veterans Administration Medical Center, driving innovation in quantitative neuroscience and educational methodology.
