Janet Anderson is a Professor of Human Factors in the Department of Anaesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at Monash University. Her research focuses on enhancing healthcare quality and safety through human factors principles, resilience engineering, and teamwork optimization. She returned to Australia after conducting NHS-related research at the University of Surrey, King's College London, and City, University of London. Education: PhD in Psychology (University of Queensland, 2004), M.Psych (La Trobe University, 1999), and a Bachelor of Behavioural Science (La Trobe University, 1986). She holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (2007). Research interests include resilient healthcare systems, adaptive capacity in teams, patient safety, and geriatric care. She leads initiatives like the Human Factors short course for healthcare professionals and co-design frameworks for palliative dementia care. Her projects address issues like vaccine uptake barriers, perioperative elderly care (COPE program), and reducing restraint use in mental health settings. Recent articles highlight teamwork typologies, adaptive capacity in Norwegian hospitals, and dementia care frameworks. Grants include leadership roles in multi-institutional projects (e.g., NEAT, MPCC Program). Collaborations span Australia, the UK, and Norway, focusing on systemic resilience and quality improvement.
