Kelsey Grinde is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. She specializes in statistical genetics and biostatistics, with a focus on developing statistical methods for genetic studies in populations with mixed, diverse ancestry. Her research interests include: Statistical genetics and biostatistics Methods for genetic studies in admixed populations Scholarship of teaching and learning, particularly alternative grading Addressing statistical challenges in genetic data analysis Professor Grinde teaches across the undergraduate statistics and data science curriculum, from introductory statistics to upper-level statistical theory. She has developed a course in statistical genetics and enjoys helping students understand and think critically about data. Her research publications demonstrate expertise in genome-wide significance thresholds for admixture mapping, pitfalls in principal component analysis for population structure, health disparities in B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and equity dimensions in grading practices. These works span biostatistics, statistical genetics, oncology, and statistics education. Professor Grinde has received recognition for her scholarship of teaching and learning, with her post on grading equity being recognized as one of the most popular posts of the year and all time on Grading for Growth. She actively mentors undergraduate students in research, collaborating with them on publications and summer research projects. Her educational background includes a BA in Mathematics from St. Olaf College (2014) and a PhD in Biostatistics from the University of Washington (2019).
