Jens Carsten Hansen serves as a Senior Executive Officer in the Department of Wind and Energy Systems at Technical University of Denmark (DTU). With 155 publications and leadership in 8 major research projects, his work focuses on wind energy systems and renewable energy development, particularly in emerging economies across Africa and Latin America. Dr. Hansen's research expertise centers on wind resource assessment, wind atlas development, and capacity building for renewable energy in developing countries. His work has significantly contributed to major international projects including multiple phases of the Wind Atlas for South Africa (WASA 1, 2, and 3), spanning from 2008 to 2021. His research fingerprint shows strong engagement with Wind Atlas development (91% relevance), South Africa applications (81%), Wind Power Engineering (63%), Microbalance (58%), and Mast measurements (41%). His recent publication trends (2021-2025) demonstrate a continued focus on practical applications of wind energy research in developing contexts, particularly in Ethiopia and Mexico. The research shows an emphasis on creating practical tools and methodologies for wind resource assessment, with strong attention to international cooperation and knowledge transfer for capacity building in emerging economies. Dr. Hansen has led significant projects including the Wind Atlas for South Africa (across three phases), capacity building initiatives in wind resource assessment, and the Kenya Miniwind project focused on sustainable mini-grid development. His conference presentations consistently address practical applications of wind resource data for energy planning and development in emerging economies. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to affordable and clean energy (SDG 7), with a strong emphasis on international cooperation for sustainable development.
