Maarten Krol is a Full Professor in Air Quality at Wageningen University & Research. His research focuses on atmospheric chemistry, emissions monitoring, and remote sensing, particularly using satellite data to quantify pollutant sources and environmental impacts. He leads projects addressing air quality, nitrogen cycle dynamics, and microplastic transport in the atmosphere. Key research interests include analyzing NOₓ, CO, and methane emissions using advanced satellite techniques like TROPOMI and MIPAS. His work bridges atmospheric modeling with field observations to improve understanding of pollution dispersion, urban tree effects, and agricultural nitrogen reduction strategies.
