Dr. Kankar Bhattacharya is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo, Canada, where he also holds a University Research Chair. He earned his PhD in Electrical Engineering from IIT Delhi (1993) and has held academic positions at institutions including Chalmers University of Technology (Sweden) and the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (India). His research focuses on power system operations, electricity markets, energy storage integration, and smart grid technologies. Dr. Bhattacharya has received prestigious awards such as the IEEE Canada Silver Medal and is a Fellow of both IEEE and the Canadian Academy of Engineering. He has authored over 150 peer-reviewed publications and serves as an associate editor for IEEE journals. His teaching spans graduate courses like Power System Operations and Electricity Markets, and he has led industry-funded research projects on topics including microgrid management and ancillary service markets. Dr. Bhattacharya also contributes to professional organizations such as CIGRE, shaping global standards for electricity markets and grid integration.
