Dr. Hussein Znad is an Associate Professor in Chemical Engineering at Curtin University's Western Australia School of Mines (WASM:MECE). He leads research in wastewater treatment, microalgae-based environmental applications, and catalytic processes. He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Aquatic Plants , and holds visiting professorships at Fukuoka University (Japan) and an adjunct role at Edith Cowan University. Znad has over 18 years of experience with 100+ peer-reviewed publications (h-index 37/42). Education: PhD in Chemical Engineering from Slovak University of Technology (SUT). Leadership Roles: School Director of Graduate Research (2018–2023), Chemical Engineering Course Coordinator (2015–2022), and School International Coordinator (2018–2022). Research Interests: Focuses on algal bioremediation, photocatalytic wastewater treatment, CO₂ mitigation, and renewable biofuel production. Awards: 2022 Curtin Aspire Award, 2020 Faculty Global Positioning Award, and multiple Japanese grants (JSPS, HORN, Tokyo Tech). Publications: Recent work includes advancements in green diesel additives, hydrogen production materials, and controlled drug release systems. His research bridges environmental engineering with sustainable energy solutions. Grants: Over $1.8M in funding, including a Qatar National Research Fund project on algae-based carbon capture and JSPS collaborations on bioremediation technologies. Active in Japan-Australia research networks through his role with the JSPS Alumni Association.
