Cordt Zollfrank

Prof. Dr. Cordt Zollfrank is a Full Professor of Biogenic Polymers at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) Campus Straubing. He leads the Chair for Biogenic Polymers, focusing on bioinspired materials engineering and biomimetic synthesis. His research integrates biogenic polymers and composites for technical and biomedical applications, emphasizing hierarchical material transformations. Zollfrank holds a PhD in forestry sciences (TUM) and habilitation in materials science (University of Erlangen-Nuremberg). He has held visiting professorships at the University of Rennes and BOKU Vienna. His editorial roles include Editor-in-Chief of Bioinspired, Biomimetic and Nanobiomaterials and membership on several editorial boards.

Research interests span biomacromolecules, biotemplating, and functional materials. Notable awards include being a Fellow of the International Academy of Wood Sciences (IAWS) since 2016. Key publications include advancements in cellulose-based optical fibers, biomimetic actuators, and sustainable biocomposite materials.

Zollfrank advises students in polymer science and materials engineering, with recent theses on epoxy resin curing and biopolymer fabrication. He collaborates widely, contributing to green chemistry initiatives and sustainable material innovation.
